QTS Named Safe Harbor Compliant by the U.S. Department of Commerce
Data Center and Cloud Services Leader Meets Stringent European Union Privacy Criteria
ATLANTA (November 30, 2011)–
- QTS earns Safe Harbor certification, meeting stringent security guidelines set by the U.S. government and the EU for interaction between American and European companies.
- Certification will help attract additional global customers, building upon recent international customer wins.
- Achievement exemplifies QTS' commitment to the EU's seven principles of privacy and personal data protection.
QTS (Quality Technology Services), one of the nation's largest and fastest-growing providers of data center facilities and managed services, today announced that it has been registered with the United States Department of Commerce as Safe Harbor compliant. Safe Harbor certification, enforced by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and Department of Transportation, assures that QTS adheres to the highest levels of privacy protection as set forth by the European Union (EU), enabling the company to develop stronger relationships with global customers.
The certification confirms that QTS meets the stringent criterion of the EU's directive on data protection, a rigorous set of privacy and personal data protection standards. By meeting the EU's seven principles of privacy protection, QTS customers can be confident that QTS' interactions with EU companies that involve the transfer of EU personal data, such as with vendors, suppliers, prospects, customers, or employees, will not be hindered due to the differences between the unique privacy approaches of the U.S. and EU.
QTS' customers are supportive of the new certification because they recognize the value it adds to their IT service and ability to grow business beyond U.S. borders.
"SteepRock is delighted to learn of QTS' new security achievements. Our company is steadily growing in European and other markets with stringent data protection requirements. QTS' Safe Harbor certification will now allow us to expand our data center footprint within QTS' facilities," said Alan Mello, president of SteepRock, Inc., a medical software company and QTS customer. "We're pleased that QTS is so responsive to requests from its customers and appreciate the work of their audit and control team as we grow our relationship with them."
Recently, QTS announced a series of new global customer wins. The Safe Harbor certification will allow QTS to further increase its global customer base, specifically with international companies that have significant compliance needs.
"Achieving Safe Harbor is another important milestone for QTS," said Kurt Stoever, executive vice president, operations - QTS. "As we see increasing demand for our data center and cloud services from global companies, it was vital that we assure them of our commitment to the EU's privacy standards covered by Safe Harbor. Our commitment to observing industry-leading best practices for both the physical and logical security of our customer data is longstanding here at QTS. Having achieved PCI compliance in the third quarter, our audit and control team continues to make QTS a leading choice for customers to whom compliance and certification requirements are of prime importance."
